The Fresh Landing
First months of marriage. Everything is new, nothing has a shape yet — and the work is practical.
First-year marriage coaching · Brooklyn, NY
The Slow Hour is a small practice in Clinton Hill. We work with couples in the first year of marriage on one weekly hour that keeps the rest of the week honest — the routines, the money scripts, and the small rituals that hold a home together.
First months of marriage. Everything is new, nothing has a shape yet — and the work is practical.
Three to nine months in. Same three conversations, no format to close them with.
A year or more. Comfortable on paper, a little parallel in practice — protected time is missing.

No email required. Two minutes to see which of our three starting points fits best — and to give us something concrete to talk about on the call.

The shape of the first year
A first year of marriage is not one continuous season. It moves through recognisable phases. Here is what each tends to ask of a couple.
Everything is new — the name, the address, the assumption that two people share one shelf. Most of the work is practical, and it responds quickly to a small amount of structure.
The honeymoon is over, in the good sense. You start noticing the patterns that will hold for years — some worth keeping, some worth redesigning on purpose.
The marriage becomes ordinary, which is either a relief or a surprise. This is where the routine gets tested against a busy autumn and a fuller calendar.
The first year closes. The habits you have now are the ones you will probably keep. This is a good moment to design them on purpose rather than inheriting them by accident.
The method
You do not need to know what is wrong before you start. You only need twenty minutes and a willingness to look at the week you are actually having.
Four questions, two minutes, no email. It tells you which of the three starting points fits your situation and gives us something concrete to work from.
Twenty minutes with one coach, no obligation. We look at your check-in result together and tell you plainly whether a track fits — or whether it does not.
You finish the first session with something concrete to try before we meet again — not homework, a habit you can actually keep.

Couples
Names shortened for privacy. Situations described with permission.
We married in June and moved cities in July. The weekly check-in was the only thing that made the move feel shared instead of parallel. Six sessions in, we still run it — every Sunday, no exceptions. That hour has become the spine of the week.
Blending two households meant two opinions about dishes. Having a format for the boring arguments saved a lot of evenings.
Our coach helped us name the small stuff before it became big stuff. That ordering made all the difference.
The boundary conversations with our families were awkward and necessary. Having a script made them survivable.
The money scripts were the most useful thing we took away. We still run the monthly ritual — twenty-five minutes, once a month.
Who you work with
Founder · Lead Coach
“Most couples don’t need a rescue. They need a rhythm they can keep without us in the room.”
Senior Coach
“We plan the wedding for a year and the marriage for a weekend. That order is worth fixing.”
Questions
It is actually the ideal window. The first six weeks of a marriage quietly establish patterns you will keep for years, and a small adjustment now costs a fraction of what it costs at month eighteen. If you are still unpacking, we pace sessions around the boxes.
Yes, and about one in four clients is engaged. The method is written for two people combining routines, money, and calendars, so the wedding date matters less than the fact that you are already building one shared life. Engaged couples simply arrive at the material a few months earlier.
No. Therapy works on the deeper patterns underneath the argument; coaching works on what you actually do on a Tuesday night. We build routines, scripts, calendars, and boundaries. If something clinical surfaces, your coach will name it and refer you to a licensed therapist.
Fifty minutes, both of you, one coach. We start with the week you actually had, choose one specific thing to work on, practice it inside the session, and you leave with something concrete to try before the next call. No homework for the sake of homework.
Tracks range from $560 to $2,640 depending on length. Every track can be split into monthly instalments at no extra cost and with no interest. You get an exact quote on the free intro call, before you commit to anything, and there is no deposit required to hold your slot.
Yes. About three-quarters of our sessions happen over video, which lets us work with couples across every US time zone and a handful overseas. If you are in the Brooklyn area, in-person sessions are available at our Franklin Avenue studio in Clinton Hill.
